The technologist provides technical management and longitudinal care for patients with implanted cardiac devices, including pacemakers and defibrillators. Responsibilities include performing device interrogations, adjusting programming, and troubleshooting malfunctions.
Requires a high school diploma and completion of an accredited CIED or Radiologic Technology program, along with CRM, CPR, and ACLS certifications. Preferred candidates have one year of experience in CIED procedures and care.
Assess CIED related issues from patient feedback and history. Access device with full interrogation and identification of sub-optimal programming, abnormal findings and/or arrhythmias. Operate all radiographic and ancillary equipment within multiple disciplines. Asses/program devices and monitor patients during MRI’s using MRI protocol. Analytical ability to synthesize intra-cardiac and surface ECG data to assess for CIED performance and troubleshooting malfunctions. Identifies impending changes in patient condition; identifies performance issues; Notifies appropriate individuals and clinicians of impending changes or issues Provide interrogation and trouble-shooting of device-related issues As appropriate and when scheduled, carry an on-call device pager during the established hours of service delivery, responding to pages from anywhere in the hospital for device related patient questions or issues. Travel to satellite locations as needed to cover device clinics services including but not limited to Green Spring Station, Odenton, White Marsh, etc.
High school diploma or graduation equivalent. Completion of an accredited program in CIED or Radiologic Technology. Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) certification; RCIS, AART, cardiac catheterization, progressive/intensive critical care unit or electrophysiology experience may substitute for CRM certification. Current CPR and ACLS certification. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
One year of experience in Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) procedures and care, including experience with pacemakers, defibrillators or implantable loop monitors, implanted cardiac pacemaker and ICD devices. Knowledge of nursing process; social, behavioral, biological, and physical science.
