Perform comprehensive patient evaluations and develop individualized long- and short-term treatment goals. Manage a diverse caseload across the lifespan, providing quality speech therapy and coordinating discharge plans.
Requires current North Carolina licensure as a Speech Pathologist and at least 2 years of experience. Candidates should have specialized training in swallowing, pediatrics, and geriatrics, along with CPR certification.
A.Patient Care 1.Demonstrates skill and accuracy in performing patient evaluations including gathering appropriate information from the medical history, patient/family interview, physician contact; selects the most appropriate evaluation tool; administers the tools according to standardized or recommended techniques. 2.Always prepares a complete written evaluation for the patient’s chart, using objective data with clear and concise language. 3.Develops appropriate long and short term goals, consistent with evaluation results and age, intelligence level, and interest of the patient. The goals are also developed in consultation with the patient and other concerned professionals. 4.Regularly re-assesses patient progress, adjusting plan of treatment accordingly. 5.Records treatment and patient progress accurately, and in a timely manner, consistent with department policy. 6.Regularly communicates with patient/family concerning progress and discharge plans. 7.Develops discharge summaries in a timely manner, to include referrals to outside agencies, as needed. 8.Administers and delegates modality and treatment procedures appropriately and correctly including: manual techniques and estim. 9.Demonstrates safe body mechanics during patient care and support activities. 10.Provides effective instruction to the patient and family members through standardized educational programs and individualized training appropriate to the education level and communication ability of the patient. 11.Assure delivery of quality speech therapy services for all areas in which the department provides patient care. 12.Manages caseload and therapist hours to suit needs of the patients while ensuring that the deadlines of the system and other support services are met. 13.Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant: 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics: 1 - 12 years; Adolescence: 13 - 17 years; Young Adult/Adult: 18 - 64 years; Adult/Middle-Aged: 65 - 79 years; Geriatric: 80+ years 14.Performs other duties as directed by the Speech-Language Clinical Coordinator and/or Director of Rehab. B.Administrative 1.Assists in maintaining departmental records, inventorying and requisitioning supplies, and in maintaining department equipment and supplies. 2.Demonstrates a cost-conscious attitude in all aspects of job. 3.Consistently ensures all charges and corresponding paperwork is recorded accurately and in a timely manner. 4.Consistently provides liaison contact with other appropriate agencies for referral and follow-up continuity as needed. 5.Regularly provides supervision to SFY/CFY clinicians as outlined by state and national policies.
