About the Position
This position serves as a Resident Advocate who works cooperatively with the Goodwin Living team at each campus to supplement staffing and accompany residents to the hospital when they are transferred by 911 via Rescue Squad. This position also assists residents in performing activities of daily living while assuring a clean, comfortable, pleasant and stimulating environment in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, regulations, scope of practice for Care Partners and Goodwin Living’s established policies and procedures. The person will assure that the comprehensive needs of residents are met and maintained on an individual basis while upholding Resident Rights.
Key Duties
When a hospital transfer occurs between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., the Resident Advocate / Care Partner may be activated to accompany the resident from any of the three campuses (Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads, Goodwin House Alexandria, and The View Alexandria).
If the Resident Advocate / Care Partner is on duty at the campus from which the resident is transferred, they should accompany the resident in the ambulance to the hospital. If he/she is on duty at a different campus, they may be dispatched to meet the resident at the hospital or to cover at the transferring campus via Uber Health.
The Resident Advocate / Care Partner should stay with the resident until a family member/POA arrives at the emergency room. If a family member/POA is unavailable, the team member may leave once the resident is settled but not to exceed four hours.

If additional residents are transferred to the same hospital during the shift, the Resident Advocate / Care Partner may be asked to support and advocate for multiple residents.
If a resident transfers via 911 late in the shift, the Resident Advocate / Care Partner may be asked to work past the end of the shift.
Assists residents with Activities of Daily Living, mobility and transportation.
Plans and participates in resident/household activities.
Knows each resident individually and reports changes in health status or behaviors as noted to Household Nurse.
Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
Promptly responds to residents’ needs and requests and performs general care activities for residents in isolation.
Provides postmortem care.
Follows established infection control and blood-borne pathogen policies & procedures.
Assists residents at mealtimes as needed and encourages adequate nutrition and hydration.
Encourages residents to attain their highest level of function, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
Job Requirements
1.
Must have reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
2.
Must cross-train to work at all three campuses: Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads on their Health Care Centers and Assisted Living at The View Alexandria.
3.
Must be willing to travel to all three campuses located within a 5-mile radius.
4.
Must be willing to accompany residents in the ambulance that are being sent to the hospital via 911.
5.
Must be willing to travel to the campus that is sending the resident to the hospital during the night.
6.
Must be willing to travel to the hospital to meet the resident in the Emergency Room.
7.
Skilled in providing resident care.
8.
Knowledge of Person Directed Care preferred.
9.
Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
10.
Must be kind, gentle, patient, organized and able to accept constructive suggestions.
11.
Must be able to work in a team as a contributing team member.
