The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing a variety of venipuncture techniques, collects blood specimens from patients in support of laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Accurately orders, collects, transports and processes all specimens for laboratory testing. Retrieves all specimens which are delivered to the laboratory. Other duties include supply stocking, scanning of documents for EMR and clerical duties. Puncture: Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.
Workload
Management: Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection for patient. Monitors collection list and document status of outstanding collections where specimens are not collected.

Delivery: Ensures that STAT specimens are delivered to the Lab within 15 minutes of collection or pick up.

Receipt: Ensures that specimens are updated to receive status, correct data is reflected in terms of collect date/time and receipt date/time. Delivers to the appropriate Lab Section immediately upon receipt.

Duties: Communicates complaints or problems to department supervisor. Collects data for quality assurance program as outlined by department SOP or instruction by department supervisor. Maintains thorough and neat documentation.

Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of applicable work experience. Phlebotomist Certification will be considered in lieu of minimum qualifications.
