About the role

Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures while ensuring proper specimen collection and safety. Manages the receipt, processing, and distribution of laboratory specimens for testing and storage.

Job Summary

Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests and know all safety requirements.

Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.

Processes specimens for testing, storage and send out to reference laboratories.

Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitation of testing procedures.

Performs waived testing as required.

Demonstrates knowledge about the functionality of the Lab’s automation line.

Acts as a resource for laboratory information.

Timeliness of specimen collections and contamination.

Qualifications

  • Education High school education or equivalent.
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science (Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Licensure/Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
  • Compensation/Benefits $15.45-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience Position qualifies for $1.75/hr night shift differential Benefits include medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, paid time off (PTO), paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, scholarship opportunities, retirement plans, free parking, and opportunities for advancement.

    Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of medical terminology. Candidates must have phlebotomy experience, a relevant certificate, or specific clinical rotation experience.
