Perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures focusing on thyroid and metabolic endocrine disorders. Administer radiopharmaceuticals, acquire high-quality images, and ensure strict adherence to radiation safety protocols.
Requires an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology and certification from ARRT(N) or NMTCB. Must hold a valid Texas state license and be proficient in thyroid physiology and radiation safety regulations.
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) specializes in performing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures with a focus on thyroid and metabolic disorders. This role involves administering radiopharmaceuticals, acquiring high-quality images, and supporting physicians in the evaluation and treatment of endocrine conditions such as hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer.
Duties: And responsibilities:
Explain procedures, answer questions, obtain patient history, and monitor patients during imaging to ensure comfort and safety, including specialized care for children or sensitive patients.
Prepare and administer radioactive drugs orally, by injection, or inhalation, while monitoring for adverse reactions. Monitor patients for adverse reactions and ensure comfort during procedures.
Thyroid uptake and scan studies, thyroid imaging with I-123 and Tc-99m, whole-body scans for thyroid cancer surveillance.
Process and analyze images using specialized software, producing high-quality images for physician interpretation. Assist in radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy preparation, patient education, and post-treatment precautions.
5. Maintain accurate documentation, including dose administration and imaging records.
Follow strict radiation safety protocols, maintain records of radiopharmaceutical use, manage radioactive waste, and perform quality control checks on equipment.
Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of imaging devices to ensure accurate and safe operation.

Maintain detailed records of procedures, dosages, and patient responses for regulatory compliance and clinical review.
9. Collaborate closely with endocrinology clinical staff to optimize patient care.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job qualifications: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology or healthcare science required
Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (N) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
State licensure as required, Texas MRT/NMT, RT, or ARRT
Knowledge of thyroid physiology, radiopharmaceuticals, and endocrine disorders
Familiarity with NRC and state radiation safety regulations
Strong understanding of thyroid imaging and uptake calculations
Proficiency in operating imaging equipment, computer software for image processing, and understanding of radiopharmaceuticals
Precision in administering radioactive materials, monitoring patient reactions, and documenting procedures
Experience in outpatient or endocrinology-focused nuclear medicine
Experience with radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy protocols
Must be knowledgeable of applicable federal and state laws regarding Nuclear technology
Must have strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association
