Provide technical assistance in molecular biology research, including performing genetic experiments and maintaining fruit fly stocks. Responsibilities include executing PCR, cloning, and tissue culture while documenting experimental results.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or a combination of college coursework and laboratory experience. Candidates must be able to follow established protocols and perform routine maintenance on lab equipment.
JOB SUMMARY Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
Work closely with the laboratory staff, following laboratory procedures and protocols. Maintain fruit fly stocks. Perform genetic experiments to generate fly mutant and transgenic lines. Analyze mutant phenotypes using microscopy. Provide routine technical support, such as preparing standard media, reagents, and chemical solutions. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. Perform basic molecular biology experiments, including PCR, DNA prep, cloning, electrophoresis, and basic tissue culture experiments, following established procedures and protocols. Document and report experimental results. Complete required logs and supporting documents

Required Education Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or High School Diploma or GED equivalent Experience No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent
