The CAA administers anesthesia to patients and monitors their physical reactions during surgery. They also obtain patient histories, perform physical exams, and discuss anesthetic plans with supervising anesthesiologists.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution and certification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants. Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications are also required.
Obtains a comprehensive patient history and performs relevant elements of a physical exam. Discusses findings and anesthetic plan with supervising anesthesiologist before induction of anesthesia. Reviews the patient's condition with the anesthesiologist immediately prior to the induction of anesthesia. Pretests and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems. Administers blood, blood products and supportive fluids. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree or higher from an institution of higher learning accredited by an organization recognized by the board of regents.
