Responsibilities
Provides for proper comfort and care of the patient before, during and after a procedure, including but not limited to, the monitoring of intravenous lines (i.e., central lines, mediports, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter "PICC" lines), oxygen supplies, and drains.
Establishes and maintains proper communication with patients (e.g., proper introduction, appropriate explanation of the procedures, etc.).
Behaves in a professional manner in consideration of patients' rights and resulting in the provision of the highest quality patient care possible.
Recognizes and responds to an emergency situation at a level commensurate with one's training and competency.
Verifies patient identification, pregnancy status, breast –feeding status, and written orders for the procedure. Ensures that informed consent has been obtained, in the method prescribed by the institution.
Confirms that the indication or the procedure is appropriate and consulting with the authorized user or referring physician in order to ensure that the proper procedure is performed.
Obtains a pertinent patient history and makes an internal note in PACS.
Ensures that any pre-procedural preparation has been completed, including but not limited to, fasting, hydration, the taking of thyroid blocking compounds, voiding, bowel cleansing, and suspension of interfering medications.

Explains the procedure to the patient or family and, where applicable, to the parents or guardian, including but not limited to, the procedure, patient involvement, length of study, and radiation safety issues.
Maintains an appropriate inventory of medical/surgical supplies, radiopharmaceuticals, storage media, and other items required to perform procedures in a timely manner.
Maintains appropriate records of administered radioactivity, quality control procedures, patient reports, and other required records.
Instructs nursing units and transporters to transport patients. Also, transport patients as needed.
Appropriately "check-in" patient procedures and inputs patient data in the hospital computer system. Manages order in system accurately. Maintains all PACS QA/QC processes
Reports to supervisor on issues that help department function more efficiently.
Ensures the proper performance of the imaging systems, storage media, and radiation detection and counting devices, including but not limited to, scintillation cameras, dose calibrators, survey instruments, Nal (TI) scintillation probes and well counters, and data processing and image production devices.
Prepares, evaluates and properly administers the appropriate radiopharmaceuticals or pharmaceuticals (under the direction of an authorized user).
Establishes or properly maintains venous access routes of various configurations (in accordance with hospital policies and procedures).
Selects the appropriate imaging or data collection parameters.
Administers radiopharmaceuticals/pharmaceuticals through various routes of administration, including but not limited to: oral, intravesical, inhalant, intravenous, intra-muscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal (under the direction of an authorized user).
Qualifications
High School graduate.
Must be a graduate of an accredited two-year program in nuclear medicine technology.
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist or eligible, or Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or eligible.
Technologist must be certified technologist or registered technologist within six months of employment or pass the first available exam if tests are not given in the first six months of employment by the testing Board.
NYS/DOH License required.
BLS required- American Heart Association accepted
Salary Range
Usd $57.87 - Usd $57.87 /Hr.
