The Infusion RN is responsible for administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other medications while monitoring patient data and condition. They manage infusion pumps, perform venipuncture, and coordinate dose modifications under physician supervision.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a valid RN state license and BLS certification. Preferred qualifications include a BSN, oncology certification, and 3-5 years of nursing experience with at least one year in oncology.
Administers chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration and other medications under the direction supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. Assesses and records patient data pre and post infusion therapy as indicated per protocol, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes. Assesses patients for changes in condition. Maintains knowledge of reimbursement procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting providers regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Administers all medications using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy and other medications, to include, but not limited to: venipuncture, central line access and infusion devices. Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. Triages patient phone calls as needed. Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy. Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. Maintains patient confidentiality. Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Business Experience – 3-5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred Specialized Knowledge/Skills – Oncology certification preferred Physical Demands: Physical Requirements (Lifting, standing, etc.) – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
