Provide direct medical care and monitoring for patients in a behavioral health crisis receiving environment. Responsibilities include performing assessments, recording vital signs, and maintaining accurate electronic health records for regulatory compliance.
Must hold a current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license and First Aid/CPR certification. While two plus years of clinical experience is preferred, new graduates with licenses are encouraged to apply.
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with patients experiencing a behavioral health crisis with co-occurring disorders such as mental health, chronic medical conditions, and substance use disorders in a 24-hour crisis receiving environment offering patient support and monitoring. We welcome newly licensed graduates to apply. Required Qualifications Current license as Licensed Vocational Nurse with the State of California required. Two plus years of clinical experience with OR an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. New graduates with licenses are encouraged to apply. Fluency in additional languages preferred. Current First Aid and CPR Certification. Knowledge of community resources, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and the county's General Assistance Program. Knowledge of medications, usages, interactions, and effects of substance use. Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress; react calmly and effectively in emergencies. Experience educating patients and providing instructions on proper care and treatment. Maintain detailed records. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service experience, including active listening, problem-solving, and calmness in emotional or stressful situations. Computer (PC) literate, including electronic health record, word processing, and e-mail, required. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate a high level of listening skills. Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing. Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability. Ability to work holidays, weekends, and alternate shifts as needed to maintain required staffing levels. Successful completion of all required organizational and Crisis program training. Must be willing to successfully complete the credentialing process. Essential Responsibilities Act as on-site medical professional providing direct patient care according to the policies and protocols. Perform LVN duties for patients. Prepare rooms, and intake patients by performing assessments, take medical histories, record vital signs, take temperatures, discharge patients. Engage with community members experiencing a mental health crisis, homelessness, disabilities, and substance use. Encourage patients’ general well-being through health promotion. Follow standardized policies and protocols for patient treatments and conditions. Keep accurate records for reporting to various funding and inspecting agencies. Maintain files for regulatory compliance and inspection. Inventory medications and supplies; rotate inventory regularly to minimize expirations. Review patient medical charts and prepare documentation. Record all patient interactions in the EHR system according to established timelines and ensure accuracy for patient follow-up and billing. Assist with daily operations, laundry, food distribution, cleaning, etc. Perform other required nursing duties for patients under the influence of drugs and alcohol or in a mental health crisis. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.
