The LPN provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient population. Responsibilities include administering IV therapy and managing care within the scope of the PA Practical Nurse Law.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited School of Practical/Vocational Nursing and hold a valid Pennsylvania Practical Nurse license. CPR certification is required, and previous experience in a specialty nursing area is preferred.
The Licensed Practical Nurse functions as an integral part of the patient care team by providing and being accountable for direct patient care under the supervision of the registered nurse. The LPN III role includes IV therapy and reflects the full scope of the practice as outlined in the 1990 and future revisions / additions of the PA Practical Nurse Law. Included is recognition and treatment of the physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.
