The role involves accessioning specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and ensuring accurate patient identification and labeling. Additionally, the aide maintains laboratory safety standards and provides high-quality customer service to hospital staff and physicians.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates must be able to follow regulatory guidelines and maintain competencies in laboratory safety and patient care.

Accessions specimens into the LIS, accurately recording pertinent data to be used by the physician in the interpretation of tests results. Properly identifies the patients/specimen according to established policies/procedures and labels all specimens appropriately. Participates in the laboratory QA Program. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the laboratory. Follows guidelines of all applicable regulatory agencies. Understands pertinent LIS functions and performs downtime procedures effectively. Follows all required laboratory safety regulations including personal protective equipment, infection control policies and chemical hygiene plan according to OSHA and regulatory requirements. Communicates effectively with all shifts and follows through on incomplete work or issues. Notifies the supervisor of problem situations and potential solutions. Maintains a high level of customer service by interacting with all hospital staff, physicians and customers in a courteous and helpful manner. Handles phone requests with courtesy, promptness and accuracy. Demonstrates active listening and seeks clarification for unclear instructions. Informs laboratory management of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions. Ensures positive customer relations interactions. Ensure prompt, effective resolution of customer needs to support a positive experience. Delivers timely service and support, consistently meeting commitments and ensuring customer satisfaction. Collaborates effectively within the department and with other units to provide high-quality service. Demonstrates a positive attitude and flexibility to adapt to laboratory testing and scheduling needs. Completes all required competencies, continuing education and learning modules. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards, and national patient safety goals.
