Provide emergency intervention and direct nursing care to triaged patients in a fast-paced Emergency Department. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of physicians and support staff to ensure quality care according to clinical standards.
Requires graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current LPN licensure in the State of New York. Current BLS and CPR certifications are required, with one year of clinical experience in medication administration preferred.
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a licensed health care provider who provides nursing care under the direction of an RN, physician, or other authorized health care provider. There is no independent component to the LPN role. The Nurse Practice Act defines the practice of a LPN as “performing tasks and responsibilities within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician, dentist, or other licensed health care provider legally authorized under this title and in accordance with the commissioner’s regulations.” EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: Graduate of an accredited school for Licensed Practical Nurses holding a current licensure or temporary permit from the State of New York. Participates in orientation and continuing education, updating and maintaining knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Current BLS/CPR certification. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Clinical setting – Exposure Class I – Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Medium work: Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting a maximum of 50 pounds. Will require the ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist squat and reach. WORK CONTACT GROUP: All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies. SUPERVISED BY: Registered Nurses, physician, or other authorized health care provider.
