About the role

Assist with the administration of prescribed medications to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Maintain accurate medical records and utilize de-escalation techniques to ensure a supportive environment for patients.

Overview PURPOSE STATEMENT

Assist with the administration of medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment, under the direction of charge nurse or supervisor. · Administer prescribed medications to patients according to established protocols and physician orders. · Prepare and organize medication doses, including oral, topical, and other forms as directed. · Ensure medications are stored and handled in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements. · Document patient interactions and report changes in patient conditions or behaviors by communicating with team. Significant changes are reported to nurse immediately. · Document timely, accurate, and appropriate information in patient medical record. · Identify self to patient and visitors promptly and respond to patient requests quickly. · Respond to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress. · Apply de-escalation techniques to help manage patient’s emotions, behavior, and participation in treatment. · Communicate clearly and effectively to patients, family members, guests, and other members of the health care team. · Adherence to work schedule and overall attendance. · Follow established policies, procedures, and standards for patient care. · Stay informed about changes in medication practices and healthcare regulations. · Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required. · Collaborate with other staff in working with the population of the facility to treat and rehabilitate. · Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a Medication Technician/Aide training program as required by the state in which the facility is located. Basic understanding of pharmacology and medication administration techniques. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred. Knowledge and experience working with the population of the facility preferred. LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: Certification as a Medication Technician/Aide, as required by the state in which the facility is located. CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility. Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and completion of a state-approved Medication Technician/Aide training program. Certification in CPR and de-escalation/restraint is required, with previous behavioral health experience preferred.
