Position summary

The Staff Dentist provides direct patient care, including both routine and emergency treatment, and maintains proper dental records and timely completion of billing information.

Primary responsibilities

  • 1. Provide quality dental care within scope and privileges in all venues through which agency personnel provide dental care.
  • Diagnose and provide appropriate dental treatment to patients, including hygiene services, restorations, endodontics, extractions, dental prostheses, and other treatment options and referral to appropriate providers.
  • Educate patients and parents of patients on maintaining proper oral health
  • Prescribe medications as necessary
  • Carefully document all medications, diagnoses, treatments and consultations
  • Work collaboratively with professional, technical and administrative staff 2. Review routine dental department productivity reports and assist in the implementation of strategies to maintain financial self-sufficiency of dental department. 3. Provide 24 hour call and coverage service for dental patients of record. 4. Assist with policy/procedure development in the dental department. 5. Implement and adhere to the policies of the organization, as well as those of funding sources and third party payers. 6. Participates in the hiring of clinical dental department staff at Dental Director’s request. 7. Attend all regular dental team meetings. 8. Implementation of the dental department’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Plan. 9. Other related duties as assigned by the Dental Director.

Required skills, education & experience

Education

DMD, DDS, or equivalent. Must be a Massachusetts licensed dentist.

Experience

Dental residency or one year of equivalent post-graduate practice preferred.

Strong commitment to CHCFC Mission. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Must be comfortable working with diverse populations and sensitive to the needs of low-income populations.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Working conditions

While performing the required duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent when traveling between Health Center locations where medical care is provided. This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a DMD or DDS degree and be a licensed dentist in Massachusetts. A dental residency or one year of post-graduate practice is preferred, along with a commitment to serving diverse, low-income populations.
