Performs non-invasive cortical neurophysiological testing for inpatient and outpatient populations across various hospital units. Maintains EEG equipment and provides monitoring support for patients of all age groups.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification. Candidates must have knowledge of neurology, electro neurologic testing, and the ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment.
EDUCATION: HS Diploma: HS Diploma or GED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE: BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, of the neurology system. Knowledge of electro neurologic testing and associated equipment. Knowledge of acute care setting, performing electro encephalogram (EEG) procedures on infant, pediatric and adult patients. Demonstrated familiarity with TJC (The Joint Commission) accreditation standards. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations. Must be able to understand, read and write the English language. Must be able to type a minimum of 55 wpm Ability to work around strong smells (i.e. collodion, acetone, bleach, hospital cleaner) Ability to work with patients with special needs or altered level of consciousness. Ability to work alone or with a team, ensuring ongoing communication between coworkers and shifts. Must possess patience to untangle electrode wires and keep cords neat on the back of EEG machines. Ability to work with multiple personality types, remaining professional. Knowledge of 10/20 electrode placement, and ability to attach leads accurately. Follows standard precautions per hospital policy. Maintains EEG/Electrophysiology (EP) equipment in good working order.
