Summary

Responsibilities
Provide medical nutrition therapy through nutrition assessment, diagnosis, interventions, monitoring and evaluation of outcomes for patients
May write nutrition orders per medical nutrition therapy protocol
Serve as a nutrition resource for the hospital, staff, patient, families and the community
Document nutrition care effectively within medical records and facilitate handoff to different levels of care and care providers
Demonstrates critical thinking in clinical practice through patient prioritization, evaluating potential implications of treatment decisions, utilizing resources to guide clinical decisions, and managing time efficiently for time sensitive clinical interventions
Calculate formula recipes for hospital and discharge. Create formula lab and home recipes utilizing hand calculations and electronic application program. Calculate formula concentration and dose additives for hospital and home recipes.

Have knowledge of appropriate parenteral nutrition (TPN) management including initiation, advancement, and weaning. Recommend parenteral nutrition macronutrient and micronutrient composition based on disease state.
Demonstrate understanding of enteral nutrition feeding types and modalities based on disease state. Identify appropriate formula type, composition, administration, and schedule for patients in the home and hospital setting.
Identify and document malnutrition and recommend appropriate interventions based on severity of malnutrition
May review and analyze nutritional lab values and nutrition-related medications/supplement. Communicate recommendations to providers and families
Participates in teaching/patient rounds for assigned patients and service areas
Train dietetic interns, clinical dietitians, and medical residents and fellows
Provide clear, effective, and professional communication to patients and family, staff, and community
Complete administrative tasks, such as patient and non-patient related phone calls and e-mails, ongoing required competencies, etc
Attend various meeting, committee involvement, contribute to projects and give presentations WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 1 year For End Stage Renal Disease only: minimum 1-year professional work experience in clinical dietetics after becoming a registered dietitian. (Does not include internship experience) Required
Education
