As an Orthopedic Imaging Assistant (GXMO), you’ll play a vital role in delivering precise diagnostic imaging and hands-on clinical support, helping providers evaluate, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal conditions efficiently while creating a positive, compassionate patient experience.
The Orthopedic Imaging Assistant is a General X-ray Machine Operator (GXMO) who provides limited diagnostic imaging and clinical support in an ambulatory orthopedic setting. This role ensures safe, accurate imaging, supports clinical workflows, and enhances patient care while maintaining compliance with radiation safety standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational quality expectations.
What You’ll Do Imaging & Patient Care Perform diagnostic imaging within GXMO scope of practice for authorized anatomical areas Operate imaging equipment safely, selecting appropriate patient-specific parameters Apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality Position patients accurately and comfortably for imaging procedures Conduct Imaging Time Out to verify patient, exam, protocol, and laterality Clinical Support Room patients, collect vitals, and obtain relevant medical histories Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments Perform clinical tasks within scope, including: Casting and splinting Wound care, suture removal, and dressing changes Medication administration and handling (including storage and compounding) Point-of-care testing (POCT) Prepare, clean, and maintain exam rooms and imaging areas Operations & Documentation Document imaging procedures and clinical information in the EMR accurately and timely Maintain imaging equipment and ensure proper cleaning between patients Manage inventory and stock clinical and imaging supplies Support front office functions such as scheduling, referrals, and patient follow-ups Provide after-visit summaries and patient education Compliance & Team Collaboration Follow all HIPAA, OSHA, radiation safety, and regulatory standards Participate in trainings, competencies, and departmental meetings Work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, and clinical staff Maintain professionalism and excellent patient communication at all times Travel to other locations as needed
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Medical Assisting diploma or 1 year of medical assisting experience (or equivalent combination) General X-ray Machine Operator (GXMO) certification Completion of radiographic positioning coursework (including upper extremities)
