About the role

Collects, labels, and processes blood and other specimens while ensuring quality and adherence to guidelines. Manages laboratory equipment temperatures and prepares specimens for referral to outside laboratories.

Essential functions

Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.

Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.

Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.

Determines acceptability of specimens.

Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area.

Prepares specimens for reference labs according to laboratory protocol.

Ensures specific guidelines are followed for various laboratory studies.

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy is preferred
  • ASCP certification preferred
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred

Total Rewards The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.

Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.

Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
