Perform non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures, including EKG, Holter, and event monitors. Monitor central cardiac telemetry and communicate rhythm changes to the nursing staff.
Requires a high school diploma and BLS certification, with a mandatory arrhythmia course completion. Experience in patient care and CCT certification are preferred.
The Senior Cardiac Technician employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for performing non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures as ordered by the physician.
Required: High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
Some college courses.
Experience: Required: N/A
Experience in a patient care setting. Previous experience performing 12-lead ECGs and/or interpreting cardiac arrhythmias. Computer experience.
Certified Cardiographic Technician, (CCT).
Performs electrocardiograms as order by physicians. Initiates holter and cardiac event monitors, which includes placement of electrodes and education of patients. Preparation of preliminary reports for final interpretation by physician. Observes central cardiac telemetry monitors. Identifies cardiac arrhythmias and any changes in patient's rate and rhythm and communicates with staff nurse. Collaborative effort with staff nurse to provide excellent patient care.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as descried in the unit's policies ad procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills review lab and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
