Position Summary
An animal care attendant provides essential care for animals withing the shelter, ensuring their well-being and comfort.
Essential functions

- Safe handling and proper restraint of animals; different variety and size.
- Clean and disinfect animal cages, kennels, and runs.
- Feeding animals, including providing food, water, and basic care.
- Providing animals with Animal Transportation Safely handle and transport animals and bedding materials.
- Clean and maintain various support areas (storage rooms, restrooms, breakrooms, procedure labs, main hallways).
- Perform housekeeping duties and maintain laundry and dishes.
- Maintain record Interviewing potential adopters to ensure they are appropriate candidates, such as having a stable home environment and being able to provide adequate care for the animal.
- Preparing animals for adoption by bathing them, brushing their fur, and clipping their nails.
- Providing medical attention to sick or injured animals in the facility.
- Assisting in the adoption process by answering questions about animal behavior and care or helping potential adopters select an animal that will fit into their lifestyle and home environment.
- Monitoring adoption events, including “meet and greets” with potential adopters.
- Helping with animal intake and performing basic physical examinations on new animals to determine if they are healthy enough for adoption.
- Transporting animals to veterinarians for treatment and/or other facilities.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace.
- Use of humane animal taps, mobile radios, cellular phones, and related animal control tools and equipment.
- Administer medications to sick or injured animals under the supervision of a veterinarian/supervisor.
- Socialization of shelter animal.
- Educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
- Work with volunteers to help maintain proper care of the animals.
