The counselor will provide assessments, individual sessions, and facilitate groups, working directly with clients to help them achieve a sober, drug-free lifestyle while maintaining high-quality care. Duties include managing cases from entry to discharge, developing recovery plans, and monitoring patient progress over time.
A minimum of an Associate Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling or a bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework is required, with a Master's Degree in Counseling preferred, along with specific Maryland certifications. Candidates must have previous experience treating substance abuse disorders and familiarity with electronic health records and SAMHSA best practices.

Education: Associate Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, or a bachelor’s degree with coursework in chemical dependency, or a Master's Degree in Counseling preferredMaryland ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LCADC, LMSW, or LCSW. Background and CPS checks. Related keywords: substance abuse counselor, substance abuse, counselor, mental health Previous experience with the treatment of substance abuse disorders. Familiarity with electronic health record systems like AVATAR would be advantageous. Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems. Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services’ (SAMHSA) best practice indicators. In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature. Typical Physical Requirements: Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, and copiers. Move and lift light objects up to 25 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
