ABOUT US

Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

The Southeastern Family Project (SEFP) is licensed both as a 3.5 & 3.1 comprehensive residential program for pregnant and postpartum women diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Gender specific substance use treatment services are provided in a healthy, stable and secure residential environment. Key responsibilities include OB/GYN-focused health assessments; developing nursing plans of care and clinical documentation; coordinating referrals, transport, and attendance at medical appointments; maintaining consultation linkages with OB/GYN and high-risk obstetrical providers; providing supportive counseling and health education; delivering crisis intervention as needed; participating in interdisciplinary service planning; and overseeing facility medication management (storage, administration, and destruction) using safety and infection control practices.

You may start by reviewing new referrals and overnight updates, then touch base with program staff to align on client needs and priorities. Time is spent coordinating upcoming prenatal, postpartum, and specialty appointments-confirming logistics, communicating with physician offices and pharmacies, and ensuring continuity across services.

Throughout the shift, you'll provide direct education in clear, practical terms-covering topics such as postpartum recovery, newborn care, and medication understanding-while offering calm, supportive counseling to clients and families. You'll also remain available for urgent concerns, helping the team navigate emerging medical or behavioral changes with appropriate escalation and documentation. The day typically closes with completing clinical records, confirming next-step plans with the interdisciplinary team, and preparing for on-call coverage when assigned.
