About the role

Manage neonatal patients through hospital admissions, rounding, and the implementation of comprehensive treatment plans. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of neonatologists and nurses to provide high-quality inpatient care.

Position Highlights Inpatient Neonatology Position at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station 7 On / 7 Off Schedule providing excellent work-life balance Approximately 62 hours per pay period On-site coverage from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM with phone call coverage only from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday-Friday Weekend coverage limited to 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM while on service No overnight call requirements Manage approximately 16 patients per day Responsibilities include: Neonatal patient management Hospital admissions Newborn rounding Circumcisions Coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams Collaborative care model with: Neonatologists Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) Registered Nurses Social Workers Dedicated unit support staff Structured onboarding with support from experienced APPs already practicing within the department Opportunities to: Teach nursing staff, students, and families Participate in precepting and educational activities Expand neonatal and inpatient medicine expertise Preferred candidates will have 1+ year of APP experience Ideal backgrounds include: Neonatology Pediatrics Pediatric Acute Care Women's Health Hospital Medicine Critical Care Practice within one of Texas' largest not-for-profit healthcare systems with comprehensive APP support and professional development opportunities About College Station, Texas Home to Texas A&M University, College Station combines the energy of a vibrant university community with the comfort and affordability of a family-friendly city.

Job Summary The PA Inpatient Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They render direct patient care and have delegated prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Inpatient Medicine providers usually work in hospitals. They manage patients by rounding and handling admissions and discharges. Essential Functions of the Role Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories. Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks. Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care. Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients on drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies. Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise. Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training. Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and proficiency of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician. May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support. Key Success Factors Know the information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures. Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions Verbal and written communication skills Interpersonal skills Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills Skill in the use of computers and related software applications Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans Ability to counsel patients concerning medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) Belonging Statement We believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported.

EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Physician Assistants (PA)

Basic Life Support (BLS)

BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Requirements

Requires a current Texas Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification. Candidates must obtain BLS and ACLS certifications within 30 days of hire.
