About the role

The Medical Assistant works as part of a patient care team to process patients, record vital signs, and document medical history in electronic records. They are responsible for welcoming patients and conducting initial screenings for behavioral health concerns prior to provider meetings.

Medical Assistant

Health Center: Full-time (40 Hours per week)

General Responsibility

The Medical Assistant will work as a member of the patient care team. Perform basic duties related to overall patient services at the Tri-County Community Action Agency. Process patients in a timely manner, assist Providers and patients and respect confidentiality of the Agency and patients.

Specific Responsibilities

Per assignment, working directly with an individual Provider as part of the patient care team. Welcoming patients in the waiting room and escorts patients to the exam room. Prior to the primary care provider meeting with the patient, performing vital signs including but not limited to blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, and temperature. Documenting all results in the electronic medical record. Obtaining and recording patient information (new patient information, medications, illnesses, ER/hospital visit,) into electronic medical record for the Providers. Completes pre-visit planning. Completing the review of system (ROS) and History of the presenting issues (HPI) prior to the primary care provider meeting with the patient. Completing Patient Health Questionnaires (PHQ-2, PHQ-9, GAD-7, and CAGE) with the patient to screen for any behavioral health concerns prior to the primary care provider meeting with the patient.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED and a graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program (at least 12-month program) is required. Strong computer skills. CPR certification.

Special Qualifications

Excellent oral and written skills are necessary, experience with NextGen is preferred. Must be able to clearly present information to patients and employees, be dependable, flexible and show initiative. Bilingual a plus. Must be motivated to work as part of the Clinical Team in providing comprehensive primary care services to patients. Professional telephone manner. Demonstrate an understanding of everyone’s experiences, every day. Ensuring the delivery of services that recognizes and respects that every moment matters.

Requirements
