The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide comprehensive mental health services to patients of all ages, helping them navigate complex psychiatric conditions, and improve their quality of life.
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is responsible for conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis of mental health conditions, and the development of individualized treatment plans.
The PMHNP will prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, carefully monitoring patients for effectiveness and potential side effects.
They also provide brief psychotherapy and counseling, offering support to individuals, families, or groups dealing with mental health challenges.
The PMHNP will work in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensures holistic care, while maintaining thorough documentation in compliance with healthcare standards.
Additionally, the PMHNP will stay current with emerging best practices through ongoing professional development and education.
Responsibilities: & DUTIES

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations through office and telehealth visits, including patient history, mental status examinations, and diagnostic assessments.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, considering patient needs, preferences, and goals, often in collaboration with clinical counseling staff and other healthcare professionals.
Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring for efficacy and side effects.
Provide brief psychotherapy and counseling as appropriate.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic and coordinated care.
Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation and acute distress.
Make appropriate referrals to other specialists or support services as needed.
Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and medication management.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations and policies.
Participate in case reviews, peer consultations, and professional development activities.
Review and approve treatment plans of clinical counseling staff.
Establish and maintain a culture that is recovery oriented, person-centered, and grounded in trauma informed care.
Provide education to clinical counseling staff on psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
Engage in evidence-based treatment and remain up to date on emerging best practices through on-going professional development and education.
Attend agency and department in-service training and staff meetings as well as any other agency related activities as required.
Supervise and support part-time NP and RN from the Critical Intervention Team.

Working conditions
Will work in the office and in the community; able to travel outside the office to various sites to attend meetings and provide support services.
Must have access to a reliable vehicle, possess a valid, clean driver’s license and be sufficiently self-insured with liability insurance in the amount of $100/$300k.
Flexible hours including days and some evenings and/or weekends.
Physical requirements
Physical activities and efforts required working in an office environment.
Visual acuity sufficient to maintain system of files and reports containing computer-generated and handwritten documents.
Auditory acuity sufficient to communicate with staff, clients, and others by phone and in person.
Mobility sufficient to conduct regular duties within a normal office environment and community.
Compensation & benefits
Competitive salary of $135,000 to $155,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
401k retirement plan with agency contribution of 4%.
13+ observed holidays annually.
Early close on Fridays.
Normal schedule is 8am-4pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 12pm-8pm Tuesday, and 8am-1pm Friday. Must be willing to expand into other evening hours as requested.
Requires a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing, PMHNP-BC board certification, and a current New York State NP license. Candidates should have 2-3 years of outpatient experience and DEA registration.
