The Dental Hygienist is responsible for performing cleanings, maintaining sterilization standards, and ensuring the routine maintenance of clinic equipment. They must maintain accurate dental records and support the dentist and dental assistant as needed.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited hygiene program and possess a valid Ohio license to practice dental hygiene. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment are required.
Dental Hygienist Primary Service Center: Springfield, Ohio (School based position is located at Springfield High School) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt – Hourly position. Work Hours: Full-time position. Hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 7:30AM to 3:00PM. Education Requirements: Graduate of an accredited hygiene program. Previous dental hygiene experience desired but not required. Possess a valid Ohio license to practice dental hygiene. Ability to work in a team environment and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and patients. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is required. QualificationsEducation and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited hygiene program. Possess a valid Ohio license to practice dental hygiene. Previous dental hygiene experience desired but not required. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff. Also possesses an ability to motivate patients. Ability to prepare and maintain charts, records, logs, and reports. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, customers and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variable sin standardized situations. Computer skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Patient Health Information (PHI) is confidential, only the minimal amount of PHI necessary to accomplish the internal purpose is to be shared or released by staff. Physical Demands: Moves in and out of exam rooms, front office, exam rooms, hallways and waiting room. Spends a good portion of the day on feet. Some bending and stooping required. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds. Over 50 pounds requires assistance. Requires manual dexterity to maneuver for operating office equipment. Visual activity required to respond and react to client observations and to physical changes while assisting with clinic tasks. Eye and hand coordination and finger dexterity needed for entering data and reviewing software. Must be able to read and generate written communication and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, providers, peers, supervisor or other collaborative community agencies. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position involves regular interaction with patients and other members of the general public. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, may occur.
