About the role

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnose mental health conditions, and manage psychotropic medications. They will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, evidence-based care through both in-person and telehealth visits.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and integrated mental health care to a diverse patient population. You will work closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and primary care providers to deliver holistic, evidence-based, person-centered care in a collaborative and supportive environment.

  • Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations including mental status examinations, diagnostic interviews, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and psychotic disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring for efficacy, tolerability, and safety.
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and medication management.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and PCPs to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Conduct telepsychiatry appointments as needed in addition to in-person visits.
  • Perform follow-up medication management visits and monitor patient progress toward treatment goals.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and safety planning for high-risk patients.
  • Engage in ongoing quality improvement, case conferences, and continuing education activities.
  • Qualifications & Requirements Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialization.
  • Current PMHNP-BC certification (American Nurses Credentialing Center).
  • Active and unrestricted Michigan NP license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Valid DEA license for controlled substance prescribing.
  • 1-3 years of psychiatric NP experience preferred; new graduates with clinical psychiatric placements are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with EHR systems; proficiency in clinical documentation.
  • Strong diagnostic, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally competent, patient-centered care.
  • Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary: $110,000 - $150,000 per year based on experience.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an MSN or DNP with a PMHNP specialization, current PMHNP-BC certification, and a valid Michigan NP and DEA license. While 1-3 years of experience is preferred, new graduates with relevant clinical placements are encouraged to apply.
