Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

◾Education High school degree or equivalent required. ◾Credentials BLS required. Completion of CPI training required ⚬Oxygen certification (Medication Aide Training Hospital based) required within 6 months of hiring. Update to be completed every 2 years. Work Environment A patient care setting. Exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious disease, hazardous chemicals, dangerous fumes, medical gases, and exposure to out of control patients, which may result in physical or verbal abuse. Physical Demands 1.Stand and/or walk constantly. 2.Sit frequently. 3.Visual, hearing, and color vision within normal limits. 4.Ability to physically help restrain a patient. 5.Full bend and/or stoop frequently. 6.Grip and/or pinch within normal limits. 7.Lift 50 pounds occasionally. 8.Carry 50 pounds occasionally. 9.Reach floor-overhead frequently. 10.Push and/or pull 10 pounds frequently. 11.Fine motor coordination within normal limits. 12.Computer use frequently.

  • Essential Functions 1.
  • Assists all patients with ADL's.
  • 2.
  • Performs 15 minute safety checks on all patients.
  • Performs room checks on all patients.
  • Assists with keeping the unit clean and neat at all times.
  • 3.
  • Assists with the admission and discharge process maintaining the safety of the patient.
  • 4.
  • Assists patients at all meals with their food trays and maintains safety during meal times in the Dining Room.
  • 5.
  • Performs accu-checks and Vital Signs as needed on patients.
  • 6.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities as directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • 7.
  • Intervenes verbally and physically with patients who are assaultive or attempting to harm themselves.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, limit setting and behavior modification required.
  • 8.
  • Documents in flow sheets: 15 minute checks, graphics, restraint flow sheets, I&D flow sheets, patient education and diabetic flow sheets.
  • 9.
  • Assists recreational staff as needed in implementation of activities.
  • 10.
  • Attends and participates in 75% of staff meetings.
  • Attends 100% of mandatory trainings and inservices.
