About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will provide collaborative medical care and treatment within an interventional pain management practice, seeing patients independently based on established protocols. Responsibilities include diagnosing patients, prescribing treatments, and collaborating with physicians to grow the pain management program.

Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated, capable, and experienced ­­Advanced Practice Provider to join our interventional pain management practice at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. This APP will provide collaborative medical care and treatment with the interventional pain management physicians utilizing protocols that have been developed by the Anesthesiologist and APP, allowing the APP to see patients independently. The APP is able to seek consultation with the Anesthesiologist in accordance with the outlined collaborative agreement.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven and seeking a role where they can make a significant contribution to the ongoing development and direction of this growing interventional pain management practice to provide optimal patient care. This APP will work collaboratively with other providers in the clinic and the management team to identify areas for growth, improvement, and development of the interventional pain management program.

This is a full time position working Monday-Friday.

Job Duties

  • 1.

  • Responsible for assessing and diagnosing patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused examinations and medical histories.
  • 4.
  • Interpretation of diagnostic studies to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • 5.
  • Prescribes, recommends, and/or employs medical treatment in accordance with approved policies and with attention to efficacy and safety.
  • 6.
  • Makes patient care decisions based on an assessment of the individual's complaints and according to the collaborative agreement.
  • Evaluates patient’s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
  • 7.
  • Counsels patients and/or families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness, and the proposed treatment plan.
  • 8.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise.
  • 9.
  • Completes all documentation of clinic visits the same day the patient is seen in the office.
  • 10.
  • Develops an ongoing plan for healthcare with an emphasis on prevention and self-care with the patient and family when appropriate.

  • Assist with procedures as delegated by the physician.
  • 12.
  • Performs peer-to-peer reviews when necessary for insurance approval.
  • 13.
  • Conducts timely follow-up, prioritizing patient phone calls that require advanced clinical judgement and/or are of a complex nature.

  • Regularly communicates with other office staff to ensure patient needs are met.
  • 15.
  • Contributes to the professional development of others by sharing knowledge and skills, providing and accepting feedback, and contributing to the education of staff and students.

Educational and Experience Required

Education

Master’s Degree in Nursing with National Certification as an Adult, Acute Care, or Family Nurse Practitioner or Masters from an accredited Physician Assistant Program and national certification from NCCPA or AAPA

Licensure and Certification

  • Requires current unlimited Indiana State license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant
  • Requires unlimited Indiana controlled substances registration certificate
  • Requires unlimited DEA
  • Current BLS Certification

Preferred Experience

Previous experience with interventional pain management preferred. Previous experience with neurosurgery preferred.

Physical Demands

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Nursing (NP) or from an accredited Physician Assistant program with national certification. Required credentials include an unlimited Indiana State license, DEA registration, and BLS certification.
