The Organization

North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.

SUMMARY

Ensure consumers of NLACRC and their representatives receive information and supports needed to make informed decisions about long-term services and future plans and assist with complex issues faced with aging adults with disabilities.

Supervisory responsibilities this position does not supervise others.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required; concentration in human services, such as social work, sociology, or psychology, preferred. For this specialist position, a degree in Gerontology or any specialized training or internships with aging is highly preferred. One (1) to three (3) years of experience in social services is required. Regional Center experience preferred.

• Skills and Abilities Knowledge of benefits planning (i.e., such as, Medicare).
• Understanding of cultural norms of a diverse aging community.
• Knowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Expertise in multicultural competence in social service settings.
• Community resources, Knowledge of the regional center system preferred, Microsoft Office and related applications.
• Ability to exercise duties in a self-driven and organized manner.
• Ability to plan, prioritize and complete duties in a self-driven and timely manner.
• Ability to be detail oriented, strong attention to detail.
• Ability to develop a system to assist in handling more than one task at a given time and to successfully navigate overlapping and often competing deadlines.
• Review and present information obtained in a concise manner.
• Ability to work under pressure and assume responsibility for complex tasks.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Essential Requirements

A valid California Driver's License and transportation, or acceptable substitute, is required.

Compensation

This position is non-exempt. Regular Salary

$30.08 - $42.50 per hour.
