About the role

Perform and evaluate complex chemical, biological, and bacteriological analyses to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Maintain laboratory equipment, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with quality control and accreditation standards.

Overview Scheduling Details

This position is a PRN position work as needed to help cover for vacation, illness and days off working varied hours days/evenings and nights. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs and evaluates complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological analysis. Ensures communication of test results as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Performs testing in the clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease using standard techniques and equipment; perform related duties in laboratory to include storing and labeling specimens and using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical tests. Performs testing accurately, safely and within established time periods.Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and instrumentation according to laboratory protocols. Maintain laboratory supply inventory.Perform various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols. Evaluates acceptability as associated with department testing.Communicates information with internal and external customers as appropriate in an accurate, timely, effective and professional manner.Recognize problems that require additional troubleshooting, perform troubleshooting or seek additional assistance as appropriate.Successfully participates in all accreditation and other proficiency testing and annual performance competencies.Develops educational materials and shares knowledge. Consistently shares any information obtained from external sources with co-workers. Educates students and new staff in assigned section. Assists with writing, evaluation, revisions and implementation of policies and proceduresComplete Continuing Education as required by Lab policy and to maintain certification if applicable.Follows and maintains familiarity with laboratory and organizational policies and procedures. Reviews as required.Able to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment. Performs testing accurately, safely and within established time periods for routine, urgent and stat testing. Performs testing in the following areas of the clinical laboratory: Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology including specimen processing and Molecular assays. Manual and automated equipment will be used to perform analytical tests including but not limited to: Manual WBC and body fluid differentials, manual body fluid cell counts, specimen dilutions, gram stains, and antibody identification and titers. Performs related duties in the laboratory to include processing, storing and labeling specimens. Recognize test result or instrument function problems that require additional troubleshooting, perform troubleshooting or seek additional assistance as appropriate. Communicates information with internal and external customers as appropriate in an accurate, timely, effective and professional manner.

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $28.09per hour - $46.91per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model. Requirements

Requires an Associate's Degree in Medical Lab Technology and certification as an MLT or MT from ASCP or AMT within one year. Must be able to work variable PRN shifts in a fast-paced clinical environment.
