Perform routine laboratory tests, quality control, and instrument maintenance within a clinical setting. Report critical results to medical staff and ensure accurate documentation of all laboratory activities.
Requires a baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science from an accredited program. ASCP certification or an equivalent nationally recognized certification is preferred.
JOB TITLE: PT Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, this position performs laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance within the clinical laboratory. TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under general guidance and direction of the Manager of Laboratory Services.
Perform routine laboratory tests within the clinical laboratory. 2. Recognize test inconsistencies and take appropriate corrective action. Provide assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems 3. Report critical test results to physicians and/or nurses immediately and according to established criteria. 4. Prepare test reports legibly. Initial and date own work performed. Review reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. 5. Perform quality control tests according to procedure and maintain appropriate data recording. Analyze quality control data and take appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Provide assistance to laboratory coworkers in resolution of similar problems. Seek help from the director as required. Document actions taken. Hold patient results until out-of-control situations are resolved. Report unresolved situations to the director. Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. Observe and follow department preventative maintenance schedules. Document all instrument checks, preventative maintenance, problems and corrective actions taken. Recognize, analyze, and take corrective action to resolve instrument/clinical problems. Provide assistance to laboratory coworkers in the resolution of similar problems. Seek help from the director. Report unresolved instrument/clinical problems to the director. Perform clerical functions associated with the designated laboratory area. Maintain tally records of work performed for workload and statistical reporting purposes. May be assigned responsibility for monthly collation of tallies. Help maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area. Check billing list for accurate laboratory charges daily. Contribute to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs. Perform specimen collection and processing duties as needed or assigned and according to policies established. Attend department staff meetings and in service training. Attend and participate in the preparation and/or presentation of the laboratory continuing education program. Keep work area neat and clean, and restock daily supplies. Assist the director in inventory control, requisition of supplies and quality assurance activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
Baccalaureate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology (Laboratory Science) program that is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA), or equivalent training, education, and experience. ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification is preferred. Please take the time to fill out an application for each job that you may be interested in.
