As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll help ensure the highest level of patient care by supporting appointments, treatments, and hospital operations. Responsibilities include:
Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures.
Safely restrain patients for exams, diagnostics, treatments, radiographs, and procedures.
Collect patient histories and accurately document information in electronic medical records.
Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments and procedures.
Collect laboratory samples, including urine and fecal specimens, and assist with in-house diagnostics.
Administer vaccines and medications as directed by the veterinarian and within hospital protocols.
Monitor hospitalized and boarding patients, recording and reporting changes in condition.
Educate clients on preventive care, vaccinations, parasite prevention, medications, and home care instructions.
Dispense medications as directed and provide clear client instructions.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and common spaces.
Wash laundry, sanitize dishes and equipment, replenish supplies, and assist with general hospital upkeep.
Admit and discharge patients while providing a positive client experience.
Support fellow team members and assist with additional duties as needed.
What we're looking for
At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred.
Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
Knowledge of vaccines, preventive care, laboratory sample collection, and basic veterinary terminology.
Excellent communication and client service skills.
Ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy hospital environment.
Experience with electronic medical records; Cornerstone experience is a plus.
Dependable, team-oriented, and eager to learn.
