Job Description

Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive patient care services. Proactively supports the efforts that will ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Children’s. Works with the multidisciplinary team to assist in the organization and provision of health care needs ranging from uncomplicated to highly complex. The scope of responsibility will encompass independent decision making, leadership skills, and projects to benefit the department in collaboration with the Assistant Nurse Manager and/or Manager. Bachelors of nursing degree Previous Pediatric experience Education Graduation from an accredited school of nursing Certification Summary Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire PALS certification within one year of hire as required by clinical unit Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Achieves 75% attendance at staff/clinical meetings as applicable Attends minimum of 8 hours job-related education Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit/system by due date Completes unit-specific orientation successfully /provides documentation Works leadership team to develop a schedule that may include evening/ weekends/ holidays as determined staffing guidelines and/or needs (on-call scheduling may be implemented during high-volume census times) Job Responsibilities Technical Skills Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines from neonate to adult. Demonstrates proficiency with all technical skills. Accesses and follows policies. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility/ assists in development of cost-saving strategies/ uses resources effectively to assist in maintaining budget. Supports /participates in monitoring performance improvement/quality control activities. Participates in maintaining/monitoring work environment to ensure continual state of Joint Commission readiness. Complies with infection control/safety and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulation. Assesses, organizes, and synthesizes patient care data to develop and adapt a comprehensive plan of care through use of nursing diagnoses and nursing process. Participates in educational process related to healthcare/coordinates discharge planning. Reads nursing research/evidence-based practice articles. Critical Thinking Demonstrates independent, comprehensive, and accurate assessment/initial management of all patients. Evaluates patient response to interventions and adjusts plan of care appropriately. Demonstrates rapid recognition of subtle changes in patient status and takes appropriate action while maintaining professional composure. Recognizes existence of nursing practice trends and questions care as relates to evidence-based practice. Prioritizes patient care consistently and independently. Demonstrates timely and organized management of patient procedures. Exhibits nursing process and family-centered care in interviewing callers/ assessing chief complaints/ /effective problem-solving and decision-making skills. Interpersonal Relationships Includes family/caregiver in patient care and provides effective education appropriate for learning needs of patient and family. Provides ongoing family-centered care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age, incorporating emotional/psychosocial/ educational/ growth and developmental needs of patient/ family. Incorporates customer service skills in all interactions with internal/external customers and participates in implementing customer service improvement initiatives on an ongoing basis. Utilizes effective communication skills in providing care to patients/families. Communicates effectively using SBAR with all team members and physicians, including transfer and discharge process. Questions any inaccuracies of deviation from practice standards. Maintains accurate, up-to-date communications with team members related to status of patient condition and completion of assigned tasks. Resolves situations of conflict involving patients/ families/staff and seeks appropriate resources when necessary. Communicates appropriately and demonstrates cohesive behavior among team members. Promotes/ utilizes/ facilitates proficient communication and collaboration for patient care with referring physicians and hospitals. Promotes education of issues related to service line through outreach activities. Leadership Demonstrates support of CHOICE and unit committees. Delegates tasks appropriately as needed. Supports unit goals. May serve as preceptor/ mentor/ relief team leader, including ability to make job-related assignments/ solve problems/ handle customer complaints.
