The Sonographer performs technical ultrasound procedures and assists physicians with invasive imaging tasks. They are responsible for documenting patient history, ensuring accurate exam coding, and maintaining high standards of patient care.

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Casual Sonographer to join their team of life-changers!

The Sonographer performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision.

They competently perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative, in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

These positions will work various shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities

Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Assists physicians with invasive procedures, adhering to universal protocol standards. Interacts with patients and co-workers, displaying caring, listening, dignity, and respect. Communicates instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears. Ensures exams are properly coded, tracked, networked, and charges entered. Identifies patients using two identifiers and reviews patient history and physician orders. Documents patient history in electronic records as required. May handle High-Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment. Obtains and documents cross-sectional anatomy images, correlating measurements with data charts. Performs technical ultrasound procedures, using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.

Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran

Requirements

Candidates must have completed an accredited Ultrasound program and hold RDMS certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification is also required for this position.
