About the role

Perform routine breast ultrasound procedures and assist radiologists during breast biopsies in an outpatient setting. Maintain patient records, ensure quality care, and manage exam room supplies and equipment.

Job summary

The Sonographer performs a variety of ultrasound procedures in an outpatient setting while maintaining a highlevel of customer service and quality patient care. The administration of the Sonographer includes performing routinebreast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and demonstrating compassionto ensure overall patient satisfaction.

Job responsibilities

1. Performs routine breast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist. Patientsare positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and scan are the same.

2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure.

3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Performs examsin an accurate and timely manner.

4. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explainsthe exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation.

5. Assists the radiologist during breast biopsies while following OSHA and universal precautions. Reviews consentforms with patients and answers any questions regarding the procedure, and ensures that the radiologist and patientsign the consent forms. Properly labels the specimen containers and fills out any necessary paperwork accurately.

6. Maintains exam rooms by stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies. Maintains equipment and reports anyequipment malfunctions to the supervisor or appropriate service provider.

7. Properly windows and levels images for film printing and burns CDs as necessary.

8. Promotes teamwork by assisting other staff as needed. Performs other duties as required.

9. Customer Service.

Work experience/Educational requirements

2 or more years in the Sonography field is preferred.

High School Diploma or GED.

Completion of a course in Ultrasound; Current RDMS and Breast certifications are required. SKILLS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills in properly positioning patients and obtaining diagnostic images, identifying equipment problems, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and public.

This job requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching; Normal vision range with the absence of color blindness, normal hearing, and normal eye to hand coordination and manual dexterity; the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. This position may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
