SUMMARYThe Radiation Oncology Nurse (RON)/Primary Care Nurse (PCN), is responsible and accountable for the direct and indirect nursing care of patients treated with radiation therapy in the Biederman Radiation Department. The ability to present accurate information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. The RON is responsible for patient education, physical assessment, assisting physicians with exams and procedures, being an advocate for patients and their families and collaborating with the health care team regarding pertinent information necessary for the care of patients. The RON encompasses evidence based care and follows OCN standards of care when providing care to patients and their families. Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.Attend meetings for process and development, maintain continuing education and required certifications.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications ENTRY REQUIREMENTSBCLSCurrently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan in good standing.Minimum of 2 years of oncology experience required.Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification within 2 years of hire.For those hired into an RN position prior to January 1, 2009, it is encouraged to obtain a BSN. For those hired into an RN position after January 1st, 2009, it is required to obtain a BSN within 10 years of start date.
