About the role

Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across various specialties under the supervision of a credentialed sonographer or physician. Responsibilities include obtaining patient health histories, documenting exam findings, and maintaining ultrasound equipment and sanitation.

Description Under direct supervision of a credentialed sonographer or licensed physician, the Student in Training Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Vascular Medical Sonographer/Cardiac Medical Sonographer/Phlebology Sonographer provides patient care services performing primarily diagnostic ultrasound which may, depending on training/experience, encompass general sonography/radiology, vascular physiologic testing or ultrasound sonography, echocardiography/cardiac sonography, phlebology/venous and related diagnostic procedures.

The Student in Training medical sonographer functions as a delegate and agent of the healthcare team's practitioners, under the direct supervision of a credentialed sonographer.

The sonographer's primary responsibility is performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations.

Secondary responsibilities may include assisting in therapeutic interventions.

The Student in Training sonographer is responsible for obtaining and communicating pertinent health history and quality/reproducible exam information to the managing medical provider including documentation of exam, accurate measurements, technical drawings and/or technical worksheets.

The Student in Training medical sonographer must have the ability to analyze sonographic findings during the examination to assure a comprehensive exam is completed.

All examinations will be reviewed prior to the data being submitted to the supervising physicians to direct patients' management leading to final diagnosis and/or interpretation.

The Student in Training technologist must possess concise written and verbal communication skills and will request assistance from department supervisor and/or provider personnel whenever needed.

As a practice with multiple locations, staff will be assigned to a location based on patient volume and need for coverage.

· Maintaining patient comfort, safety and care while obtaining quality diagnostic images, often tailoring the exam to the needs of the patient such as: o Patient body habitus o Exam tolerance o Mobility o Physical condition o Cognitive status · Uses professional judgement to optimize examination protocols while adapting to the patient · Customizing protocol and exams based on patient status · Accurately identifying and communicating critical test results to supervising provider · Recognizes patient status changes that may require performance of first aid measures in emergent situations · Maintains properly functioning ultrasound equipment and workspace · Assures patient record storage including PACS and technical worksheets · Assures cleanliness and sanitation of ultrasound machines/transducers, ALL work areas including exam rooms, patient beds and changing areas, linen, desk, and storage. · Follow infection control and patient safety guidelines · Utilizes AIDET conversation when communicating with our patients · Prioritize PHI initiatives Essential Functions: · Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy, physiology, as well as ultrasound physics. · Using professional judgement and critical thinking when performing procedures and interventions under the direction of a physician · Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing · Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence · Ability to work as a team member · Attention to detail · Basic understanding of computer technology Equipment Functions: Utilizes and operates equipment and mechanical devices including but not limited to ultrasound machines and monitors, transducers, ultrasound accessories and computers. Utilizes archiving systems for storage of patient's diagnostic/therapeutic DICOM images. Job Related Expectation: · Represents the mission, vision and values of CiC in all functions of the position. Demonstrates leadership and personal growth thru participation in education practice-based programs, department operations and identifying new opportunities to enhance job functions. Applies the standards of practice/performances, guidelines relative to departmental operations. Customer Service Expectation · Demonstrates customer service that is in keeping with vision of CiC. Exhibits concern and compassion for all patients' needs whether directly or through supportive actions with patient's family.

Minimum Qualifications

· Requires national certification from ARDMS or CCI within one year of hire · Requires licensure by state (when applicable) · Must maintain CME standards as required by ultrasound accreditation bodies · BLS required · Must maintain high patient privacy standards and adheres to HIPAA guidelines · This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with a minimum of 5 years 'experience relevant to CiC's scope of practice · Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills Physical Demands: · Requires prolonged periods of sitting or standing · Performs all duties using proper body mechanics and ergonomics · There will be times at which bending, reaching and occasional balancing and stooping is required. · Ability to push and transport patients in either a wheelchair or by stretcher · Frequently move/lift 50-100 lbs · Good visual and auditory acuity is essential. · Manual dexterity required often · Must be able to communicate effectively to sure the directive is immediately understood · There may be exposure to biohazards and chemicals · On occasion exposed to bodily fluids or patient conditions may be encountered · Must be comfortable working in an environment that might be exposed to distressed patients, families, or visitors · This position is safety sensitive

Requirements

Requires national certification from ARDMS or CCI within one year of hire and a BLS certification. Candidates must have at least 5 years of relevant clinical experience and adhere to HIPAA and state licensure guidelines.
