About the role

Provide direct, age-specific patient care based on medical orders and plans of care under physician direction. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of RNs, LPNs, and physicians to meet patient needs across various medical specialties.

Clinic at Short Pump Pavilion is home to a variety of specialties including Interventional Pain Management, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Rheumatology, Weight Loss, Bariatrics, Plastic Surgery, Surgery Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Acute Care/Trauma and Wound Care.

Our patients require care for a range of pain and mobility issues and some require medical and surgical management.

We’re a team of 20 consisting of RNs, LPNs and CMAs and we collaborate with our physicians and patient access teams to meet the needs of our patients.

Our clinic is open Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm with some flexibility.

No nights, weekends, or holidays are required.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.

AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.

Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills Experience PREFERRED: Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant Previous experience in an academic health care environment Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent Education/training PREFERRED: Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Independent action(s) required: Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.

Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.

Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.

Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.

Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.

Age Specific groups served: All Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.

Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma and a current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association. Candidates must have BLS HCP certification and either a medical assistant program degree or one year of recent work experience.
