Under supervision of a physician or registered nurse, participates in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of delivery of care. Under medical model, assists physician in providing prescribed care or treatment to patient. (In units using medical model, patient assessments, plan of care, and discharge plan are performed by a physician or physician extender.)

The
Licensed
Practical
Nurse may not perform the following tasks:
Documentation of the initial inpatient admission assessment.
Initiation of Caregiver Protocols, with the exception of influenza vaccine protocols.
Initiation of the administration of blood products, unsupervised.
Initiate chemotherapy infusions or administer IV push chemotherapy.
Complete the initial assessment for restraints.
Unsupervised administration of code resuscitation drugs by IV push.

Candidates must have two years of experience in a healthcare setting and graduation from an accredited licensed practical nurse program. Certification as a Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse and Basic Life Support within 30 days of employment are also required.
