  • Summary: This individual provides adult and pediatric psychiatric evaluations and treatment to the Indian and Non-Indian population within the service area of the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center. The Psychiatrist must be able to communicate well and be able to establish rapport with patients and their families.
  • They must be sensitive to the needs of the
  • Indian community: its cultures, traditions, behavior patterns, and background. They must be familiar with the aims and objectives of the health center and express a genuine enthusiasm for its success. Adherence to protocols will be in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES: (Will include but not limited to)
  • This role involves providing comprehensive behavioral health care across all age groups, including evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and managing medications.
  • It also requires prescribing appropriate medications, ordering diagnostic tests, and performing necessary procedures to ensure effective patient care.
  • Additionally, maintaining strong relationships with the Indian community and staying informed about their needs are key responsibilities.
  • A solid understanding of the principles and methods of psychiatry and general medicine, as well as preventive and therapeutic psychiatric care, is essential.
  • Staying current with new techniques in behavioral health and clinical operations is crucial, along with maintaining appropriate certifications.
  • The role requires knowledge of psychosocial problems and the application of psychiatric social work, clinical psychology, physical therapy, rehabilitation therapies, and other ancillary Medi-Cal services.
  • It also demands expertise in psychiatric research principles and techniques, as well as in general adult and pediatric psychiatric outpatient care.
  • Daily documentation of patient progress, collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team, and educating patients, families, and Medi-Cal providers on treatment and recovery plans are central duties.
  • Completing Medi-Cal records accurately and on time, following documentation guidelines, and ensuring compliance with billing and regulatory standards are required.
  • The role includes the care of patients with acute or chronic behavioral disorders and multiple problems.
  • Promotes continuous quality improvement in patient care and service while maintaining professional licensure and collaborating with community providers.
  • Provide comprehensive behavioral health care to pediatric as well as adult clients
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy and completion of a residency program in an institution approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. One year of experience in a clinical setting, which may include residency. Must possess a valid physician's and surgeon's license issued by the California Medi-Cal Board and DEA permit/certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Certificate of psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or possessing a written statement from the Secretary of the Board indicating eligibility for examination are preferred. Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged perios of time; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; manual dexterity for operation of computer and phones; hearing, talking, and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; walking on uneven ground; operation of medium-weight equipment. This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
