A Brief Overview Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic medical sonograms at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomy measurements and abnormal or suspicious anatomy; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.

What you will do

Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.

Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.

Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.

Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.

Perform a variety of diagnostic sonograms to include but not limited to Abdomen- Aorta, right upper quadrant, renal, renal doppler, OB GYN- first, second, and third trimester fetal examinations, pelvis- trans abdominal and transvaginal. Small parts- thyroid, extremity, scrotum, and breast. Pediatrics- pylorus, spine, hips. Procedures- Biopsies of thyroid, liver, lymph nodes, renal, aspirations, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.

Perform standard diagnostic sonogram procedures as required by physician’s order.

Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.

Completion of exam in hospital information system.

Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.

May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.

  • Certificate under the completion of a Medical Sonography program Required or
  • Associate's Degree under the completion of a Medical Sonography program Required
  • Experience Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year Sonography experience Preferred

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Non-registered sonographers must successfully complete the ARDMS registry within 24 months of hire date) Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required

Requirements

Requires a certificate or associate degree in Medical Sonography and BLS certification. ARDMS registration is required or must be obtained within 24 months of hire.
