Expected pay for this position is $31.49 - $37.05/hour.

Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

This is an Hourly position.

OSF will invest in you on day 1! Candidates with 5+ years of direct experience will receive 24 hours of Vacation and Holiday time that will be available for use beginning day 1. This is in addition to our generous time-off benefits.

Overview

Position Summary

According to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in order to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. In doing so, receives and processes specimens, examines specimens and records test results. Provides test result information to approved callers and alerts appropriate personnel to abnormal test results for immediate action. The non-certified technologist may be assigned to any laboratory section. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary based on assigned area, shift and/or experience.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

A bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science, medical technology, biological science or chemistry is required with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and includes one of the following options: a) 16 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of math b) 25 credits of pertinent biology, 8 credits of chemistry, and 3 credits of math c) 25 credits of chemistry, 8 credits of pertinent biology, and 3 credits of math (Options b and c would require additional coursework to be eligible for ASCP certification) Analytical skills necessary to interpret routine tests, recognize abnormal test results and troubleshoot equipment. Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals. Demonstrate proficiency to read, recall and follow policies and procedures written in English, understand written and spoken English, and be able to reproduce numbers. Must have previous experience of working on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills; this includes ability to maintain high level of professionalism and skilled performance in stressful situations. If certified, maintains current certification according to guidelines established by appropriate certifying agency.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science, medical technology, or biological science with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 to include 16 credits of chemistry, 16 credits of pertinent biology and 3 credits of math. Successful completion of the ASCP Board of Certification MLS/MT exam within 1 year of becoming eligible is preferred. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Ability to walk to patient care areas as necessary and perform phlebotomy procedures. Successful completion of the ASCP Board of Certification MLS/MT exam within 1 year of becoming eligible is preferred, but not required. OSF HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
