About the role

Perform screening and diagnostic mammography procedures using 2D and 3D techniques under the direction of a Radiologist. Ensure technical quality of images, maintain equipment quality control, and practice radiation protection for patients and staff.

Summary

Under the direction of a Radiologist, Facility Manager performs mammography procedures according to protocols established according to the ACR and FDA, at a technical level requiring supervision of technical detail. Performs screening and diagnostic procedures using either 2D or 3D technical radiographic procedures that will require judgement and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is going to be performed and records all reasons for the exam including all signs and symptoms.
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Positions patient and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
  • Moves mammography equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Processes radiologic digital images and examines for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.
  • Verify that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS. Make changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed.
  • Make sure to present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Stock/Order supplies, check machine for any problems, perform equipment QC when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications / Education / Experience

  • Minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a 2-year Radiologic Technology Program from an accredited school.
  • Current and valid Florida State License (CRT)
  • Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry and Mammography (M) registry
  • Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR)

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma, graduation from an accredited 2-year Radiologic Technology program, and a valid Florida State License (CRT). Must hold ARRT registry in both Radiologic Technology and Mammography, as well as AHA BLS certification.
