  • Category: Health Care General Purpose Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN provides direct support and nursing care to residents and clients. This care can include assessing medical and nursing needs, coordinating necessary treatment with appropriate staff, and travelling to company locations throughout Richland and Lexington County.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide professional nursing care to supported persons, following established policies and procedures of the facility. Assist Clinical Management Team in care and management of the facility. Act as charge nurse in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Assess medical/nursing needs of clients and follow up as necessary. Render first aid, medical treatments, and perform other professional services as ordered or required. Prepare and administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and schedule appointments as follow up for first-aid needs. Escort supported persons to medical, dental, and other appointments. Provide monthly foot and nail care. Take and record vitals as needed. Obtain medication when supported person is going on an off-campus visit. Complete the medication receipt procedures when medication is received from the pharmacy. Report all discrepancies on orders, diets, etc. to the Nurse Manager. Ensure that medical supplies and medications in the residential facilities are sufficient and current and medication cabinet and nursing area are kept clean. Manage and maintain medical files appropriately including but not limited to; Leave Authorization Form and charting all pertinent information. Work in conjunction with medical professionals (i.e., Physical Therapist, Speech/Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Dietician and Physicians to provide optimum health services). Ensure that admissions, transfers and discharges of residents are done in such a manner as to provide for continuity of care and adherence to all State and Federal regulations. Promote effective working conditions and relationships with clinical staff, operational staff, other disciplines, volunteers, and agencies affiliated with the residential divisions of Babcock Center. Attend committee meetings related to health care of individuals supported, (i.e. clinical services, accident & injury, etc.) as needed. Perform other related duties as directed by management. Provide support to the clinical team as needed and appropriate. Maintain approved driving privileges with Babcock Center. QualificationsQualifications Completion of a Bachelors of Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Current RN licensure with the South Carolina State Board of Nursing required. Two (2) years’ work experience in intellectual disabilities or another related field preferred. Must have dependable transportation as site visits are required. Typical Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, pulling, pushing, and reaching all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to and over 50 pounds. Normal range of hearing and vision. Typical Mental Demands: Must be able to multi-task and deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment. Formulate decisions and act upon them. Adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information. Working Conditions: Works residential homes, activity centers, company facilities, and medical facilities. This position requires a high level of responsibility and accountability. Hazards/Potential Hazards: Aerosolized medication, aggression/violence, biological/infectious hazards, electrical, ergonomic hazards (i.e. patient handling, lifting), pushing/pulling, hazardous drugs, latex allergy, needle punctures, trip hazards and wet floor.

Requirements

Requires a current RN license in South Carolina and dependable transportation for site visits. A Bachelor of Nursing degree and two years of experience in intellectual disabilities or a related field are preferred.
