Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or compact RN license where applicable). Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and successful completion of the NCLEX-RN. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, typically through the American Heart Association. Behavioral Health, Psychiatric Nursing, Pediatric, or Adolescent experience is often preferred. For specialized child/adolescent psychiatric settings, employers may prefer or require psychiatric-mental health training or certification such as psychiatric nursing certification or related behavioral health credentials.
