About the role

Perform moderate and high complexity laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens. Conduct quality control, instrument checks, and preventative maintenance while training new employees on policies.

Overview Performs all required procedures relating to moderate and high complexity laboratory testing on all types of blood and body fluid specimens. Performs quality control procedures, instrument function checks, and preventative maintenance as required according to department policies and procedures. Teaches new employees laboratory policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Certification from an accredited college or university required. Degree must be in Medical Laboratory Sciences or one of the biological or chemical sciences. Biological or chemical sciences also requires laboratoary training through an accredited laboratory school.

  • Required: Eligible for registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT,ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT,NCA) or equivalent. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and the American College of Cardiology as a Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. It was also awarded the 2023 Get with the Guidelines Rural Stroke Bronze Quality Award from the American Heart Association. In fall of 2023, DeKalb Regional was one of seven hospitals in Alabama to receive an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group. DeKalb Regional Medical Center has 500 employees and more than 100 members of the medical staff.

Requirements

Requires a degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or biological/chemical sciences from an accredited institution. Candidates must be eligible for MLT(ASCP), CLT(NCA), or equivalent certification, with 1-2 years of experience preferred.
