  • SUMMARY: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists occupational therapists with planning and conducting programs to help patients in regaining physical and mental stability.
  • KEY
  • RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews medical history of patients and assists in developing personalized plans to improve the health and wellness of individuals. Assists in the assessment of a patient's mental or physical condition. Evaluates and reports patient's reactions to the program and initiates changes accordingly. Emphasizes improving the daily quality of life for patients through analyzing their home and or work environment and providing recommendations for accommodating these areas. Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching techniques. Provides education to family members and or employer on matters of accommodations and program progress. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Other duties as assigned.

  • Training: Graduate of an accredited program approved by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)Therapy Association (AOTA) with Associates Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Must be a Licensed/Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, issued by the State Board of Occupational Therapy. CPR certification required.

  • Knowledge/Skills: Customer/client orientation. Detail oriented and Attentive. Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Physical
  • Requirements: Varied activities including sitting, walking, squatting, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching. Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of an ACOTE-approved program with an Associate Degree and hold a valid state license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. CPR certification and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds are also required.
